JSAT Main Grant

Financial assistance primarily for postgraduate Jewish students studying in the UK

JSAT's main grant programme provides financial assistance towards the cost of study and living expenses. Grants are normally between £1,000 and £3,000, depending on individual circumstances, financial need and the funds available.

Am I eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

✓ are Jewish
✓ are under the age of 30
✓ are studying, or planning to study, in the UK
✓ are primarily undertaking postgraduate study
✓ can demonstrate a need for financial assistance

We consider every application individually. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee that a grant will be awarded.

What do we consider?

We look at your circumstances as a whole. When considering an application, the Trustees may take into account:

• the cost of your course and living expenses;

• your savings, income and other funds available to you;

• student finance, scholarships, grants and other funding you have received or applied for;

• financial support available from your family;

• any particular circumstances affecting your financial position;

• your educational and biographical background, including your studies, experience and involvement in the Jewish community;

• why you have chosen your particular course and university, and how these choices relate to your future plans;

• your reasons for applying to JSAT and how our support would help you; and

• information provided by your referees.

We recognise that everyone's circumstances are different. The application gives you an opportunity to tell us about yourself and your circumstances, as well as providing the financial information we need to consider your application.

What will I need?

Before starting your application, it will help to have details of your academic history and proposed course, employment and work experience, income, savings and expected expenditure, student finance and other funding, and any family contribution towards your studies.

You will also need two references, including an academic reference, together with the supporting documents requested on the application form.

The application also includes a few short questions about why you have chosen your course, your future plans and your connection with Jewish life and community.

What happens after I apply?

Applications are considered by the Trustees after the application deadline. We may contact you if we need further information or clarification before reaching a decision.

We will let you know the outcome of your application once the assessment process has been completed. All applications are treated confidentially.
