Meet Our Trustees

Alan is the grandson of JSAT's founder, Oscar Philipp, and has served as a Trustee for many decades, providing a remarkable continuity between the Trust's early years and its work today.

Alongside his longstanding involvement with JSAT, Alan has maintained a strong commitment to education and supporting students. An INSEAD alumnus, he established a scholarship fund providing needs-based support to students at the business school. He has also played an active role in supporting the Hebrew University of Jerusalem through the British Friends of the Hebrew University, where his roles have included Honorary Treasurer and chairing its Grants & Allocations and Investment Committees. He was made an Honorary Fellow of the Hebrew University in 2014.

Alan has also devoted much of his life to voluntary work within the Jewish community. He served for many years as Treasurer of the Jewish Welfare Board and subsequently became a Vice President of Jewish Care, where his roles have included chairing its Pension Trustees. In recognition of his contribution, he received Jewish Care's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.

Through these roles, Alan brings many decades of charitable, financial and governance experience to JSAT, together with a longstanding personal commitment to helping people access educational opportunities.

Jo, née Philipp, is Oscar Philipp's great-granddaughter and represents the fourth generation of the family to be involved with JSAT.

Her professional background spans publishing, editorial management and digital content, including roles with AP Information Services and later Wilmington plc. She has many years' experience in website editorial work, database and information management, research and developing content for both print and digital audiences.

Jo is closely involved in JSAT's strategic development and modernisation, including improving its grant-making and application processes, developing its digital presence and strengthening the way the Trust manages its records and relationships with students, former recipients and supporters.

Jo also brings personal experience of navigating special educational needs provision, providing additional insight as JSAT considers how it might respond to wider educational needs within the Jewish community.

Gaby brings extensive experience in project management, operations and the Jewish charitable sector to the JSAT Board. Her career has included roles with IBM, JW3 and Jnetics, where she most recently served as Head of Operations and Programme Delivery.

Alongside her programme-management experience, Gaby has many years' experience working with databases and CRM systems, including the management of donor information and supporter relationships. Her work within the Jewish charitable sector has also involved programmes supporting schools, university students and the wider community.

Gaby brings this combination of operational, data and charity-sector experience to JSAT's strategic development, helping the Trust strengthen its systems, develop its relationships with supporters and shape the next stage of its work.
